How to Maintain Your Car Alternator
Virtually all cars built in recent years have AC generators, commonly referred to as generators.
The electrical generator system provides a high performance in the procurement of electric power of at least based on the engine performance. It has been called the ultimate power source for use in automobiles.
The generator provides the potential for longer battery life in addition to its primary advantage – higher performance. The higher performance is due to the comparatively low weight of theRotor and coil assembly relationships play a greater role for higher speeds. The result is obviously better performance – even at engine idle. Maintaining the advantage of a deputy gives your electrical system is only a matter of knowing the generator and keep it in top tune.
The generator is not more difficult than the generator tune. If problems are obvious, you do not usually replace the entire unit. The device breaks into two parts – the stator and rotor – where you replace the onesthat will give the effort.
In many cases you do not even need to replace one of these important components. A common problem, low power, is usually caused by either two things: a slipping belt or faulty diode (rectifier).
Fan belt tension is the generator of crucial importance. Always make sure that the belt is in good condition and adapted to the specification.
The one precaution you take, if the work is with the alternator protection from reserve polarity. ReservePolarity of the alternator or the battery, even for a moment and you have a chance of burning out the rectifier. To prevent accidental grounding and, additionally, you should always insulated tools when working in the field of the alternator.
After adjusting the belt, turn your attention to the regulatory authority. Make sure that all connections are tight on this unit. Follow this by the state of the control points. If you find they are burned or pitted, replacethe regulator. Now, check, and unplug all connections, including those relating to the ignition, the ballast resistor, surfaces of the regulator and the implementation of backup and holder.
Loosen the brush of the alternator and check them for wear. If worn, replace them.
In some cars, the brushes of the alternator with the device in your car can be removed. Unscrewing the external head screws, which are attached to the brushes do so. In other cars, the device must be removed fromto reach by car, the brushes, which can then be unscrewed.
If it becomes necessary to disassemble the device, remove it from the car and split it open, the separation of the stator and rotor. Try the first rectifier. This can be done with a commercial diode tester, you can also a continuity tester, such as an ohmmeter or a test lamp, plug into household electricity.
When one diode is defective, replace it. This requires special tools and should be left toPro Shop.
Next check the wiring carefully stator for breaks. To be quite sure there are none, you should test leads from the stator to the stator core with a 110-volt test lamp or other suitable tester. When the lamp is grounded to the stator and should be replaced.
Finally, to test the field windings in the rotor part of the generator. This is connected with a current meter done to the generator starting battery while the rotor shaft by hand. The correctField current should be recorded on the meter. This interpretation differs from car to car, so check your service manual.
The above description tells you what to do if you are not always the outcome of the generator. However, there are things that an improperly adjusted or malfunctioning can lead to alternator – most will be reviewed on the car.
